Sleep for an 11 month old - confused!

My 11 month old will only sleep in a morning. After ready loads of your comments, I see that most babies of this age will drop their morning sleep and have a couple of hours after lunch. Mine is the other way round! She has about 2 hours, 10am -12, then doesnt bother for the rest of the day. She goes to bed at 7pm and wakes usually about 5.30am. Can sometimes get her to settle back down till appx 6.30am with some coaxing! Does anybody else have this sort of a routine?

Sounds exactly like my ds2 who's also 11 months - he wakes at 5.30/6ish then back down about 10 till lunchtime then up till bedtime at 7.30. Ds1 was the same too, and his morning sleep just gradually got later in the day till it was after lunch and when that happened he started to sleep in later in the morning as well. Hope this helps!!

Hi Janjas

My dd is now 23 months and still has her sleep in the morning. She has never moved her sleep to the afternoon or after lunch. I did try it once for a week and it just didn't work. I also found that I was stuck to the house much more if she were to sleep in the afternoon. I wouldn't worry at all as this is just your childs body rythm and why try and change it.

I think it is also better as they are more than ready for bed at 7 and go down well. I think if your child were getting tired and grumpy in the afternoon then he/she may just need a 10/20 mins top up in the car or push chair as still only 11 months.

My 9 1/2 month old is doing something very similar....

thanks for your comment. She used to go back to bed at 9.00am but slowly Ive managed to get it to 10am. I'll try and get the sleep a little bit later still and then hopefully the sleeping later in the morning will happen too! Like that idea!!

Thanks madame. I know what you mean about being stuck in in an afternoon. She starts nursery soon in an afternoon and the session starts at 1pm which could be awkward. Also, we tend to make our plans for afternoons. She does sleep in the car if we go out and sometimes in her buggy but then I worry that she has too much sleep because she has had 2 hours in a morning! I don't know, I sometimes feel like you cant win!!
