Dd terrifies of spiders

Dd (9) is utterly terrified of spiders. Not just the huge ones that most people dislike, but also the tiniest tiny ones.

I know loads of people hate spiders, but usually it's only the leggier, bigger ones. I don't like those either. As a family we've got a pretty healthy tolerance of insects & bugs, so we haven't brought her up to be like this. She doesn't mind other creatures - things many other people would fuss about.

I have tried reasoning with her that the tiny ones can't do her any harm, but she's convinced that she's been bitten by one before.

We've had a couple of incidents when a tiny spider has appeared in my car when we're driving. She's completely freaked out.

Any tips on how to help her? She is truly terrified when she sees one.

Can you involve her in catching them and putting them outside? I'm doing that with my 3 year old and it seems to be helping. Unless you are scared too in which case it doesn't work Confused
