Almost 3 and still no tears?

My DS is 3 in november. He is not much of a cryer generally but when he does hurt himself he doesn't really have tears. His eyes will mist up a little bit but no actual tears. (I think he has ever only had 2 actual tears!) He doesn't seem bothered by this (no sore or inflammed eyes/ducts)and often when he cries it just seems like pretending noises. And he will stop when I ask him to. DH never cries either (which I thought was just a stubborn man thing ) but now am thinking it is possibly a genetic thing ? Has anyone else encouunted no tears in a child before? The drs don't seem concerned as it is not a 'problem'. I am just curious that is all.

It's not that uncommon. Might mean the eyes are a little drier than normal and artificial tears might help out if so.

I didn't cry actual tears till I was about 15, not even when I broke my collarbone - I didn't generate many and I think the shape of my eyes meant they drained away quickly inside my eye rather than overflowing down my face.
Never a problem.
Was always most jealous of my sister who could do the whole tear-streaked cheeks malarkey though.

I am glad to hear there are others out there. I now find it difficult to handle kids with big flowing tears as I am so unused to them! I am due with number 2 in 4 weeks so it will be interesting to see if the next one follows suit.
