Anxiety in children....how do I help?

My son is 5 and he suffers terrible anxiety 😥. He worries and panicks about things no 5 year old should. He got himself awful upset the other day just picking out school shoes because he didn't know which he should choose. Just an example over the little things he gets himself worked up over. I'm aware I have anxiety and that has not helped him at all, but I always try and keep my anxiety at bay around him. I offer him lots of reassurance when necessary but I don't feel like I'm helping at all.
He is a super sweet boy and very sensitive but I dont want this anxiety to take over his life, he should be enjoying these years being a carefree little boy. How do I help him?

DS1 went through an anxious phase (though not that anxious) at the end of Y4. I found Helen Kennerley's book "Overcoming Anxiety" helpful. Hope it helps you and your lad too.
