What do I do when friend is disciplining her child?

Parent disciplines her child. Whilst doing so, what am I meant to do?

Sometimes I'm lucky enough to be able to excuse myself briefly from the situation but there isn't always the opportunity.

The child is actually quite a character, mature for their age and tests the boundaries just like any other.

Often when they're very naughty they're also very funny and I have to hold my breath and look away to stop myself from laughing.

I feel so awkward I avoid all eye contact/look like I'm being disciplined myself! (Which I know I'm not!)

I don't want to be a nodding dog and frown at said child whilst my friend is parenting them but equally I don't want to appear to be siding with the child and undermining the parent.

So I just stand there, like a sore thumb.
What do you do?

I don't go away, that would feel weird, but I avoid eye contact with the kid as well, because the kid might seek or see or think to see an opinion about the issue in my eyes and it's not my place to express an opinion towards the child in this situation.
I stay busy, if possible, like reading a magazine.

Distraction and avoiding child's eye contact, this is helpful thank you.
