Help - paper phobia

Hi,
I am just wondering if anyone can help with any tips or advice. My 10 year old has a real issue with paper. When doing his homework if I touch my nails on the paper it really freaks him out. He also doesn't like the feeling of the side of his hand rubbing on paper and generally uses a ruler or something under his hand to stop him having to touch the paper. When younger he used to lick the side of his hand before writing.
It is now affecting his handwriting and presentation and he does not enjoy writing although has a lot to say.
I have tried fingerless
Gloves but he also can't stand the feel of the cotton gloves on paper.
We have no idea where this has come from but it is obviously something that is really difficult for him to explain and is now having a significant impact on him. He is a real book worm though and happy to pick up books to read etc.
Anyone heard of anything similar or have any tips as to how to deal with this?
