2 year old still prefers mum

DS turned two in July and he still prefers me over dad. If I’m there, he would prefer me to help him, cuddle and comfort him. If dad comes near him, he would scream. He does go to his dad but not as much. DH said to me that he think DS doesn’t love him and it really hurts me because he genuinely feels it. DH looked after Ds whilst I went to work until July. He has now moved abroad and we’ve just come back leaving him behind. DS has not mentioned him once and seems to have forgotten him. When I ask him ‘where’s daddy’ he says daddy’s gone but isn’t bothered.

Is this normal? When do kids start to miss their parents?

Since DH will be abroad for a while, I worry about their attachment
