Powder formula Vs liquid - baby painful gas

Hi everyone,

I'm predominantly breastfeeding my 9 week old but since 2 weeks have topped up with a bottle or 2 of formula.

When he was about 3 weeks old he started getting really bad gas, he'd roll around in his sleep in his Moses basket with his knees pulled up, making terrible squealing noises like he was in pain. It was so upsetting :-(

I tried just solely breast feeding him and he was never satisfied.

Our HV suggested that we give him ready to use, liquid formula instead of powder formula and this has worked amazingly well, he seems fine on it but - we use so much plastic packaging which we hate and it's more expensive. I have also cut dairy out of my diet.

The HV suggested re-introducing the powder again once his tummy seemed settled, we started this a couple of days ago and he seems to have had the terrible gas pains again.

Has anyone has the same experience and if so when was it safe to reintroduce powder again?

I should add that I return to work at the end of October (not ideal) so I am think ahead on how we will feed the baby when I am not around.

Thanks!

Hi, have you tried infacol? My son was similar and would hold his knees up and be so unsettled with wind. We got infacol and it really helped. It's hit and miss, it helps some babies and not others.

I would perhaps try the formula powder again then use infacol alongside it and see if that helps. I know with powder formula, you need to shake the bottle but one tip I read about was to shake the bottle as you need to but wait for the air bubbles to totally disappear before feeding the baby. The air bubbles can cause a little extra air in their tummies and lead to built up wind
