Baby mirror superstition - freaking out!

Ok so I know this is silly (I'm blaming sleep deprivation!) But yesterday I was at home with my lo all day and we were playing by looking at his reflection I the mirror and he LOVED it!

But the. I read all these awful.superstitions and old wives tales about how you shouldn't let baby look in mirror before they are 1 because they could see the devil / have trouble teething / worst of all they could die :-((

I had never bear these things before and now I'm totally freaking out and upset! Can someone please help put my mind at rest and tell me these are stupid?

He was smiling at himself and making so many cooing noises and at one point I almost thought he laughed ( though I doubt this I'd possible as he's only 9 weeks old) but still, I couldn't wait to show my partner but now I'm worried it's bad luck.

I'm not overly superstitious but for some reason this has freaked me out!

The things us Mums worry about - I agree it's probably due to sleep deprivation! Smile

My little boy (11 weeks old) LOVES to look at his reflection. I have a mirror book and a tummy time mat which both have mirrors he loves looking in to. Like your baby, he coos and smiles and giggles at his reflection. I also have a mirror attached to the back headrest in the car so I can see him in his car seat when driving and he loves looking at himself in this.

I have never heard of any of these superstitions but my baby is perfectly happy and healthy and I absolutely wouldn't worry about it.

It's a brilliant way of letting baby explore. And don't forget, babies don't recognise themselves in a mirror so they think it's just another face. It's the same as looking up at us or any other family member. It's a good development tool Smile

I also sometimes lie on the floor next to my baby and hold my phone above us with the front facing camera pointing at us so you can see us both on the screen. He goes crazy for that Grin

Thank you so much!

I know I'm being silly but I have a tendency to worry and get anxious when I'm super tired!

That sounds like lots of fun I will give that a go. Honestly he enjoyed it so much! You know how addictive it is when they smile :-)

It was a silly friend who told me about those superstitions, serves me right for googling it.

Thank you for reassuring me!
