How to keep calm

Hi I'm a single mother to 2 very hyper girls. One is 6 and one is 3. They really test me. They argue all the time and talk back to me. If I ask them to do something they say no. They seem to be much worse over the holidays. They're not normally so cheeky and I think it's worse because it's been wet weather and I don't have a lot of money to take them places. Does anyone know any strategies I can use to help them calm down and listen to me a bit better? I have been trying to stay calm but I will usually lose my temper with them eventually as they are right up in my face. They just don't stop from the moment they get up and I've been asked before if my eldest has been tested for ADHD. I'm just at the end of my tether today and would appreciate some advice from someone who has been through it? I don't want to yell at them. I think it's making them act out more anyway. Their dad died 3 years ago so they have no one but me.
