My friend and neighbor was over today and she asked me for my honest opinion regarding her son who is almost 8.
He is a lovely kind polite boy with one younger brother but he does stand out often a as being completely away with the fairies.. many many things go completely over his head especially sarcasm and jokes. He might ask very silly questions about subjects you would expect him to know a little about or he would ask if a rugby player plays with man united etc.
He is definitely immature for his age ( prefers playing with younger kids). Academically ok but not super. Can't swim or tie his laces yet but decent at some sports. A little bit anxious. The school have been annoyingly vague about him.

Does this sound typical to anyone else. Will he simply mature or should she talk to someone else about it. I honestly don't know what to tell her. In reality he just comes off as much younger child so it might just be immaturity that will resolve on its own

Any insights appreciated

I would honestly advise her to approach his GP with her concerns. They will refer from there to a paediatrician. There could be many other things she takes for granted are normal that aren’t as they are ‘normal’ for her DS but not developmentally.
