Dd1 has at last got an apointment to be assest by a paediatric doctor, what to expect?

We have been struggling with dd1 (3.6) since she was 6 months old due to her obsessions and phobia's, after 3 years of thinking she will grow out of it i took her to the HV who has refered her to the paediatric doctor for a assesment. Dd1 has a fear of most females apart from me and my mother, the paediactric doctor is female so hopefully she will be able to see dd1 at her worst.

Has anybody else been through this or simalar?

What should i expect at the appointment?

My ds had anxieties about all social situations until he was nearly 4. This included being terrified and crying on my lap at birthday parties and being carried into friends houses screaming. At the age of 4 he suddenly changed and became more confident and happy. Now at the age of 6 he is a very happy and sociable boy. How did this happen? I was always very patient with him and never forced him to do anything he didn't want to do, and did things with him that he was comfortable with. I praised him and never compared him with other children. Maybe he would have changed anyway as he matured. I hope I have given you hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

hi marne, had something similar, just be prepared for a lot of questioning about you, in one hours consultation the consultant was almost,i thaught, saying i was making it up. thank god dd did what she does five times in front of her. at this age alot of behaviour is attention seeking, not saying this is the case wuth your dc incase anyone jumps on me, but be prepared for this line of questioning.

Thankyou all for your advice, im not sure why she has these phobia's, the hv said she may have had a bad experiance of a woman that might have frightend her, the only things i can think of is 10 the nurse messed up her jabs as a baby and she bled alot, 20 my Aunt looked after her when i returned to work (dd was 4 months) and she is a very loud/in your face person.

Dd is a very bright little girl and she thinks alot about evrything she does. the main problem is her fear of females as this is causing problems getting her to go to nursery/pre-school, other phobias include cats,dogs,birds, loud noise's and mooving cars.

She has always (since 6 months) had obsessions about things being in the rite places, not getting dirty and she hates any changes in routine, she lines things up in order of size, colour etc and she has never slept through the night.

Im just looking for help through the paediatric doctor to know how to handdle dd's problems and help her overcome her phobia's.

She's very bright (can read.write etc..), i dont want her fears to effect her when she starts school next year.
