How long from all fours to crawling?

I've totally forgotten this from ds1 5 years ago - but how long does it take from getting up onto all fours to starting to crawl?

ds2 is a few days shy of 4 months and has started getting up on all fours - so do I need to start babyproofing now?

I thought ds1 did this early (he crawled the day he was 5 months) but it looks like we're on track for even earlier with ds2. He probably is strong enough (already sitting on his own, was born already able to hold his own head up) so I'm not worried on that front, but am more concerned about our holiday in three weeks time in a cottage which isn't equipped with stairgates - didn't think we'd be needing them yet!

My DD was starting to crawl within a week of getting up on all fours.
She wasn't strong enough or coordinated to crawl properly at that point, but it she could get around and it didn't take her long to start crawling properly.
Yes, I would advise baby proofing as soon as possible because you'll be surprised how soon he starts getting around.

3 days on, and we now have the back legs givng the correct forwards signals, but the arms not quite having caught on - resulting in ds2 nosediving most of the time, but making the occasional succesful forwards lunge. Very frustrating for him, but quite comical to watch. Looks like it won't be long before he susses it out properly.

Completely depends on the child
Ds got on all fours to crawling within a couple of days.
DD1 all fours to crawling took about 5-6wks
DD2 all fours to crawling 2mins!

Ds took quite a long time - including a phase when he could only go backwards, which used to make him furious!
Then I went with my sister to get shoes for her DSs - I put DS down (I'd had to leave the buggy downstairs as of course the children's department was upstairs ) & he was off like a shot! - had to grab him before he reached the stairs - the shoe shop had that really close-textured nylon carpet and it just gave him the extra grip he needed. After that he could do it at home too. He was about 6 months I think -it's 19 years ago, so I don't really remember too well!
