Toddler frustrated with toys

My adopted son (15 months) has been with us for 3 weeks at home. We also looked after him for a week at the FC.

We've brought all his toys over so he more or less has the same toys for now. He's settled in quite nicely but one thing I've noticed is he getting frustrated with the toys he plays with.

For example, if he's playing with megablocks and can't fit them together properly he starts screaming, or throws them in anger. If he wants to fit a square piece in a triangle slot and it won't fit he gets really frustrated. If he's trying to walk and carry a toy but loses his balance he screams.

Is this something most kids go through? What's the best way to keep him calm? Or should I just leave him to it? The toys are age appropriate.

Some people are more patient than others - babies and toddlers are no exception. In your case of course it can be a factor that he just went to live with you recently, but in general it's nothing abnormal.

I would also agree that he's getting used to his new surroundings, it's only 3 weeks so give him time

The toys might be the right age for him, but is his level of development typical of his age?

Our little girl is a similar age (also adopted) and she is exactly the same. If she can't do something first time it gets launched across the room! I normally try and say "calm" take a few breaths with her, then I will show her a few times myself and then see if she can try again. But if it happens again then just distract with something else! Was also going to say get some ‘easier’ toys from the age bracket below for when he’s experiencing frustration
