I'm not sure what I can do to help my DS who is 9 - heading into year 5 and wondered if I might be able to get some help on here.
I have been told in by my son's teachers (the last few years, so not a recent thing) that he is not fulfilling his full potential in school.
He is a very bright boy but seems to want to get away with producing the bare minimum in terms of work. He's engaged in class discussions apparently, really enthusiastic in wanting to learn new things but when it comes to the boring bits of lessons - where he has to sit and, you know, actually produce some work, he messes around with his friends and loses focus.
Last year we had a system where the teacher would let me know how his behaviour had been at the end of each day and if he got 4 good days in a week he'd get a reward. I found this to be a bit inconsistent though as there would often be days when the teacher wasn't at the school gates and it eventually fizzled out altogether.
At home I do find it hard to get him enthusiastic about things and to take instructions from others. It can be so frustrating.
Anyone got any tips?? Should say teachers say he's not naughty in the sense of not mean etc, just silly and trying to make friends laugh.
