Nearly 2 year olds speech

Hi just looking for some advice on my LO development. I'm not sure whether I should be concerned about her speech or if it's normal that she's not saying a lot. She babbles a lot and says no, oh dear, dad and points at things but she doesn't say much else that I can make out anyway... when she's babbling it's like she's say something really interesting with lots of expressions and eye contact. She will be 2 in October and I have noticed others similar ages are saying more words and understanding instructions and she doesn't seem to be there yet although she does understand "come here" and "no" and "say bye bye" and other simple things. Should I be worried or is this normal?

My little one is 20 months aswell. He says mama, dada and hiya. If you ask him what a dog does he says woof. He also thinks a pig and a sheep say woof. He babbles to and makes eye contact and is sociable. When i last got him weighed the health visitor said its more important that he understands instructions at this age and he does

I wouldn't say she is nearly two, as 3 months is a long time in baby development time, as for example only 8 words at expected at 18M while over 100 words plus 2-word sentences at 2 years old. So at 21M you would expect around 40 or so words (it increases in an exponential line). So even though she is a little behind, speech delays at this age are very common, and they tend to resolve by themselves (or with a little speech therapy). If she is progressing well in the other 'social' areas (specially in pointing to request, pointing to share, 3-point-gaze, social referencing, etc) then there is no need to worry.

I was going to say exactly same as above, my daughter is 2 in October but wouldn’t consider that nearly 2. She will change so much in 3 months, a whole quarter of a year!
Mine has really come on in the last few weeks and the same will probably happen with yours. Doesn’t sound like anything to worry about. She is probably saying some words in amongst her babbles that you aren’t recognising.
I make sure I constantly repeat words and at her eye level and I see her watching my mouth move, learning how to do it herself. Very cute!

I'm not qualified but wouldnt worry too much. DS1 hardly spoke at all at 2, and didnt even babble much. I pushed for hearing tests which were fine, and SLT referral. They said if his receptive language was fine (which it was), just to give it more time. If she understands things well enough I'd wait til her 2 yr chevk but not worry. DS1 is now 4 and speaks fine - he just caught up by himself.

I would take a look at the talking point website. I agree with some of the other posters saying a few months makes a big difference, but some of the exceptions are incorrect.

I would also say trust your judgment, once your DD is two. If you feel she is still behind push for some help.

at that age talking isn't that important. it's more important that she is communicating (gestures, pointing, bringing you things to show you) and that she understands you. at that age, understanding simple instructions is expected, such as get your shoes, bring the ball, where is daddy? answering simple yes/no questions such as 'more food'?

if you think her understanding is not ok, I wood see her GP. usually, a hearing test is a first step.
