tantrums this young!!???

hey, well ds is nearly 16 months and he has started having tantrums whenever he doesnt get his own way, screaming and crying looking like his world has just ended ect, was wondering if this is normal at such a young age!!???

My DD had her first tantrum on her first birthday, because she couldn't steer her new buggy properly. I don't think it is so unusual.

Don't ask me - DD has just started to do this at nine months and I thought I had at least another year before this sort of thing happened. Is he having problems communicating and getting frustrated? My nephews had pictures of the common things they wanted and they used to point before they could talk and it cut down on the whingefests!

Yes very normal!

My DS started with tantrums at 14 months and we still get the occasional one now (he's 14 - years)

his tantrums are over small things like all toddlers i guess eg... not being allowed in the kitchen whilst i am cooking, not getting what he wants all the time (he has an obsession with his books atm!!) just needed a bit of reassurance as my best friend who has been away on holiday seemed shocked seeing ds throw tantrums for the first time!! whats eveyones ways of dealing with young toddler tantrums??? just interested to see how people deal with them....

Dd's are about not sitting down - she's just learned to stand and now throws a hissy fit if you try and get her to sit. She stands in the bath, while you are changing her nappy , in her cot. Drives me barking. I just ignore her and she stops after a few minutes.

I did try distraction and that sometimes works, but I'm trying to hold onto the fact that if she gets it over and done with early then I can gloat when she's two and other mums who had babies when I did are embarassed in the supermarket, DD will look disdainfully upon them

lol, yea distraction in the form of a rice cake can be helpfull but as for calming after a few minuites, well i should be so lucky!! i just stay calm and try to ignore the bad bahaviour and praise all the good things he does.. ds has back teeth cutting through atm also which is making him much more irritable bless him, he has his first ever dental check up tommorow morning too!!

Ah yes, we are having the joys of incisors at the mo Four weeks so far, will they never bloody break?

I've taken to picking DD up and waltzing with her quite fast round the room, it seems to disorientate her and she forgets she is cross.

DS has been in the throws of what I swear is the terrible twos for the past two months (he's nearly one). Like KZ says, it's usually when you take something from him or stop him from doing something. The back arches, the head gets thrown back and he screams himself senseless for a while. I tend to leave him to it, then when he's calming down distract him with something else. I only pray it doesn't get worse.

ROFL whomovedmychocolate! I have to dance with mine too! Just came on to ask did anyone elses LO throw a tantrum at 10m because my DD has been doing it for a few weeks and it is getting worse. She just bit me then arched her back so I almost dropped her! I am sure my nieghbours think I am torturing her.

I have been teaching her signs and she even knows a few words like up and gone but I think she is impatient to communicate with me.

I just thank my lucky stars she isn't pulling up by herself yet or she would be literally throwing her teddy from the cot!

I feel better knowing I am not alone.
