Driving myself mad

Hi all,

I’m really driving myself mad here. Any help would be appreciated.

My son is 23 months now and I feel like he has some asd traits. Here are the ones I’m worried about

  • He doesn’t say hi or bye. Only when promoted
-he isn’t friendly with other adults. He would only go to them if he needs help -he has a lot of words and is beginning to use 4 word sentences but he repeats words a lot. -doesn’t answer questions (only simple ones like where’s daddy but if I ask him what did you eat he’d just say something random) -he doesn’t participate in circle time activities- just runs around doing his own thing But
  • he does play with other children like running around
-he responds to his name but sometimes he doesn’t -he does do pretend play e.g puts something on his head and says hat -he points -if he’s not allowed to eat something e.g chocolate he would look at me first before eating it (maybe this comes under shared attention?)

Thank you in adnavce

Also he’s very attached to me. I find it really hard to do house chores when he’s awake.
He wants to be held when I’m busy or wants me to play with him (for example if I’m cooking he would get upset if I don’t come to play with him, then cry until I distract him with a snack)

Also, he bites, punches or pulls my hair (and other children) although we’ve been working on this and it has improved.

None of the concerns you list are part of the autism diagnosis criteria for his age, in fact, they all sound very common for a 23 month old, ie. I have never seen a 23 month old baby answer you if you ask them what they have just eaten, that would require memory recall which is not expected at 23M.
