Why does he bang his head on the floor?

2 year old has a tendency to bang his head on the floor anytime he doesn’t get his way and has been doing it for 6 months.

Some floors are stone and it makes no difference, he just ends up with a bruise as he does it at full force

Family members who saw it happen recently said they couldn’t understand why he does it and these are people with multiple children who are all still quite young so I just expected it was a phase but it seems not

What can or should I be doing to help him?

Hi OP, that sounds horrible to watch. Just pushing this up to the top of the list for you to see whether anyone has any advice.

Head banging and other self harming behaviour is normally a form of self soothing, i.e. they feel better after doing it. It is very common in children with developmental disorders but also present in neurotypical children but much less so.
