I know this may be the 100th request for advice on pinching, but can anyone help?

My DD is nearly 11 months - she has started to really pinch me hard when I cuddle her. I have tried placing her down and calmly saying 'we don't pinch' but it's not working.
Am feeling quite emotional today and taking it personally....any tips on the best way to deal with it?

Straight-forward no with disapproving face. I don't remember ds being able to understand much more. Or pretend to cry...

That's it isn't it - too young to understand. So just keep do what I'm doing and hope the phase passes?

Yes, but I think most babies understand no. When my ds does this sort of thing, we say no very sternly and I will take hold of his hand so he (maybe) makes the connection. You need to respond quickly as their memories aren't great at this stage!! I'm sure the message will sink in, but you can rest assured that there is no malice behind it at this age... Good luck!

sorry to hijack a pinching thread about biting, but is it the same sort of thing? my nearly 10 mth old son has started biting ( he has 6 teeth), not when breastfeeding, which is what i was expecting, but my shoulder or arm or face. it doesn't seem to be hostile, he doesn't do it when he's raging.
i say no very sternly and i put him on the floor away from me and look angry. he finds this completely devastating but doesnt seem to have stopped doing it!
my big worry is he will do it to another baby, cos he's bigger and boisterous and more mobile (started walking) than most of his "friends".

Ds has never been a biter, but I should think the same applies...

I have seen threads in the past few months on the subject of biting so if you do a search you might find something more helpful.

If it makes you feel any better, dd pinches, bites AND wallops people - and so far the 'firm no & put down' approach has only lead her to kiss you stright after she manhandles you

My friends daughter started serial pinching when she went to nursery. The teacher asked my friend if they could put baby mits on her when she pinched and she agreed. Sounds a bit victorian but the problem stopped.
