My 11 yr old wants to walk home from school but it will mean her letting herself in and being alone for about an hour. Is she too young?

Depends on the child, only you can judge how responsible she is.

I live in Denmark and It's very common to leave younger kids alone for a period of time....creates independence! My two, 11 and 12, have been coming home from school and being alone for a short while for about a year.
