Is this just a phase? Or some sort of ocd behaviour?

Ds, who will be 2 next month, absolutely can't settle to anything if a door/drawer/gate is open. For example, if he's on the potty or having his dinner, he won't eat or actually use the potty if a door (Drawer, cupboard, kitchen door etc) is open. He points and says "door shut door shut".

It's the same when reading stories or playing etc. He also really worries and can't cope if there are any changes to the house. Our cm's coat hooks fell down over night, and ds was beside himself because they weren't where they were supposed to be.

I'm beginning to worry, so please reassure me this is normal.

I don't know if it's normal, but my DS (aged 2 and a half) is just the same. Although the things he's concerned about vary from time to time. I think it's just 2 year old control behaviour.

At the moment he's campaigning for me to rearrange the furniture in the conservatory. whenever I leave him alone for a few minutes, he takes the cushions and puts them in the lounge next door, unties the ties on the sofa cover and attempts to remove it. According to him, the sofa looks better blue.

Sometimes he tries to rearrange people as well.

I think he's going to be a movie director when he grows up.

(throws hand in air, waving) me too me too....my dt2 went through phase of NEEDING the spare room door to be closed when he went up to bed.

He did other stuff too which now escapes me, but since that phase he has developed into a little boy with a VERY vivid imagination. He can play for hours with a radiator hanger thing telling me its a lawnmower. He will 'start' it, 'mow' my bedroom carpet and 'empty' it into a 'sack'! I think it is a phase of NEEDING things to be a certain way - i guess a symptom of needing a routine as a tiny baby else they wouldn't feed/sleep/settle. He's not as bad as he was, but he does have MAJOR hissy fits if things aren't to his liking.

me too. At 2 my DD shut every door in the house. She's 3 now though and cant be bothered

My dd (just 3) has just come out of a phase of doing this. She would wander round the house making sure every door was shut.

The biggest problem was that she kept shutting the cat into bedrooms and he has torn up the carpet in one of them
