10 year old and ADHD

My son has been referred for ADHD we filled out the forms and conners reports. They came back saying not taking it further. What do we do next, i no something is there as my husband (his dad) has recently been diagnosed. He has poor concentration, gets easily distracted and takes a while to get into any work set in the class room. He also takes forever to settle at night time to fall asleep. I think they have said not taking it further as his behaviour is really good and he is a lovely boy. I don't no what to do next.

Not really experienced but from research with my child this seems to be the inattentive adhd type which is often overlooked. An inattentive boy doesn’t fit the stereotype which is why they may be dismissed. Go private or to another paediatrician. Have school raised any issues?

Thanks for reply. Yes school have said for the past couple of years that he struggles with comprehension and his concentration. I thought maybe it was the class mix but obviously now reading more into it. I have spoken to the senco in the school and they have referred him now for speech and language, on these forms there is parts that they can fill in about these issues, he said hopefully it will get picked up there. I have been googling private doctors but I'm at a loss of to were to start.

Sorry should have added there that yes it was me and the teacher who both spoke at his last parents evening about ADHD and they referred him.

I think people such as physiologists , phsyciatrists and paediatricians are able to diagnose child adhd with evidence. School should get given forms to fill in about his symptoms and so should you. I should advise you though that many conditions can contribute to the symptoms listed such as dyslexia etc so take a look at them and possibly dysgraphia ( I think it has a new name now)

Also I read online that it helps to bring evidence to the sessions such as unfinished work , reports from school etc.

Yes my first thought last year was dyslexic. But the teacher brushed it off straight away. His teacher this year seems really good and has picked up on things. He always finds any excuse to get up out of his chair to do little jobs. Sharpen pencil or go the toilet.
I may take him to the doctors this week and ask them if they can recommend any private ADHD doctors. I will take all the forms we have already filled in about him there and hopefully get somewere.
