autism does anyone know about it, signs for it etc

right my ds is 3 in september, he doesnt speak a single word, only a few arghhh arghhhs nothing else, he doesnt give eye contact and only sometimes responds to his name.

hes had various hearing tests passed and failed some seen ent specailist, been seeing a salt since he was about 18 omnths but has made very little progress. i was just wonderering if anyone has had a ds or dd like this or can offer any help or advice on this. i am going to ring hv tomorrow to get her advice

hi mammymax, my ds1 is 5 and dx autistic spectrum - confusingly he speaks and gives great eye contact! i took him to the hv who then referred me to a paed (the ones who can dx autism -salts usually can't in my experience) because his speech is confused, at the age of 3 he'd never spoken to a peer or played with one and he had obsessions with things that bordered on compulsive. Autism is a huge spectrum and no 2 children have the same issues - which is why you need to be referred to a paed that you can share your concerns with - i took a list of my son's behaviors to the hv and this was used months later in the paeds final dx. the national autistic society website is helpful and does list potential symptoms. hth oh and post in the special needs section - ther's a huyge amoune of experience of language delay
