Weaning advice

Hi
My LO is a little over 6 months. I’ve been weaning him for approx 3 weeks now and he’s having none of it! Nothing I’ve given him he’s taken to. However he was a really poor feeder from birth (FF) so I’ve also worked really hard to get enough milk into him. Since I’ve started weaning him I’ve kept this up as I’m worried his weight will drop again. So I’m wondering if I need to cut back the milk so he’s more hungry? He takes between 5-6 feeds in 24 hours totalling approx 800ml. Is this too much if I’m trying to wean him?

Is it puree or finger foods you are offering?

Both...he literally screams with whatever I give him! He doesn’t mind porridge now - but maybe because I give it every day. But everything else he literally spits out and cries

I wouldn’t cut back on his milk - that should make the bulk of their calories until they’re one. I would just keep gently offering small amounts of food, especially at the same time that you are eating, but without any pressure. If he looks interested in something you’re eating (and it’s suitable!) give him some.

Is it possible he has a tongue tie or another palate issue? I’ve often wondered if thesecsometimes get missed in FF babies, as the it’s often the pain from BF latch that is a big clue that something is wrong.

He did have a tongue tie when he was a baby but we had it cut...I don’t know what’s wrong but it gets me down :-(

It might be worth getting his tongue checked again? I know of two babies where it grew back again/wasn’t snipped far enough. Worth a try maybe? And Cake for you, I have a 7 month old and I know how wearing it can be when things aren’t going right.

Following as in excatly the same boat. My son has always been a terrible milk feeder...he is VERY low weight and so far doesn't seem very interested in purees or finger food. I am trying to keep my cool after 6 months already of daily tears around how difficult he is to feed. Feel like such a failure. I agree....just stick at it...with no pressure as they will pick up on that (easily said I know). I am not going to reduce his milk intake as it's taken us months to him to an average of 27oz a day. I am sure they will both get the hang of it soon. It's so stressful though, I see other babies chowing down large amounts
