dd aged 4.8 is being a monster atm argh

We were on holiday for 2 weeks recently, since then she has been a spoilt brat (and i fi think about it for a while before)

She continually asks for treats. Every night has ended in tears recently

Tonight our nanny brought round a mat thing to put dog bowls on for the dog

Dd has been screaming and crying ever since (about 40 mins) because she didn't get anything

So I told her she would go to bed without stories if she didn't stop being so silly. She is in her room screaming and wailing and pretending she has hurt herself (a common trick of hers)

someone stop me reaching for the Vodka bottle, please.....

she just came in and said sorry

lots of blubbing but has calmed down now

She has also recently startd sucking her sleeve if she has long sleeved top on, tonight she is sucking her thumb. I wonder why?

Does a technique of going on and on work for her? I.e. do you give in sometimes? I made this mistake with ds, he knows that sometimes it's worth moaning on and I'll say yes to get him to stop it. He seems to know when it's a very firm NO though, it's the tone I think.

And you do follow through on threats, right?

And wouldn't blame you for opening the vodka

Have there been any recent changes? Are there any upcoming changes - school perhaps?

Is something worrying her - ask her, though you may not get much feedback but you never know she may mention something.

Ds1 is like that too WWW. He'll go on and on and on and I giev in but other times he knows not to even montion it again. I think it might be the bloodshot eyes and veins standing up in my forehead that does it

CD, IME it'll only get worse before it gets better.

I wonder if she is secretly anxious about it. I have talked to her at length to try and see if anything is bothering her. She seems very excited about school but who knows?

Thats what it feels like to me somedays anyway.

No, but seriously I think it does get worse before they realise that actually all this moaning, foot stomping and wailing is all in vain. It obviously depends on the child to a certain extent but Ds1 is 8 and in only just getting it. Ds2 si 6 and is better than ds1.....

The 4 year old I care for is excited about school, but also very anxious and does not seem to realise that I won't be there with her.

Talk to your dd about school, see if she has questions for which she wants an answer.

we went through the same thing at christmas spoilt rotten spending lots of time with family and freinds, then that when it all started expecting things all the time but be strong and stick to your guns she will get back to her normal routine promise.

Nannynick, I deliberately haven't mentioned it in that way (ie are you worried about school) as she seems so happy about going that I didn't want to put the thought into her mind that there might be something to worry about iykwim!

You could be describing my dd at the same age (she's now 6). She used to act like that a lot, and it was always worse if we'd been at the grandparents and she'd been getting too many treats.

Your dd sounds like mine - a bright and aware child with a strong and determined personality? (please correct me if I'm wrong!) When my dd used to get into a state she would go on for so long that she'd forgotten what she was wailing about by the end of it. I used to wonder what I'd done wrong when my friends' kids didn't seem to notice that they weren't getting a treat, for example.

I would say don't over-analyse. My dd loved school from the beginning but was tired and I definitely didn't get the best of her. She is SOOOOOO much better now. She still gets angry but knows (and I know) she needs to go to her room and calm down. Just sit it out - some children are never going to be easy going....
