Bottle feeding

Hi, my daughter is 7 weeks old and EBF. I have been trying to get her to take breast milk from a bottle for the past couple weeks, but she is really struggling. We are doing paced feeding and taking it really slowly, but after the first couple of swallows she starts choking and getting really upset. We have slow flow teats so don't think that is the problem. She just gets so upset I end up giving her the breast. I really want to get her to take a bottle though so that her dad can enjoy feeding her too and I can have a bit more freedom!! Anyone one else had a similar issue??

My boy found paced feeding too slow as I have a fast let down myself so he was used to drinking quickly! Once I spend up the bottle feed and increased the teat size he stopped choking and crying at the bottle. I've been ebf him for 6 months now (apart from one expressed bottle a day by his dad) and that doesn't seem to have done him any harm. Might be completely different for your daughter but thought I'd mention it just in case! :)

Yes I have been told I have a fast let down too, so this could be the problem! I have been so conscious about doing the paced feeding and making sure she takes breaks so as not to cause nipple confusion, I was reluctant to speed up the feed. But I'm getting to the point where I'll try anything now! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give this a go tomorrow

I know, we were the same!! All the advice is about pacing, we were even hold to take him off and burp him after every ounce but that just made him wail until we gave him his milk back! When he was finished and satisfied he was happy to be thoroughly burped and there were no problems with that. He just wasn't happy with how slowly the milk was coming out and getting impatient so he was crying and therefore choking! I mean, don't go crazy with it but it's worth trying it a bit faster or with a bigger nipple to see the effect. Let me know how you get on... good luck!
