In need of advice please mums and dads !
My 15mo is very physical and cheeky ! She is walking confidently and has started trying to run, and just loves hurling herself about whilst laughing hysterically !
For the past few weeks she’s developed a fixation with running between our 2 lounge sofas, climbing on to each sofa and either standing up and jumping (sometimes right on the edge) or hurling herself over the arms/back/front of the sofa. She has no concept of safety or where the “edge” is.
We have hard floors and I’m constantly hovering over her (otherwise she would have fallen off with some force many times by now). Of course I don’t mind her being on the sofa if she wants to sit down or curl up. I can’t really stop her climbing up ....and I keep telling her “no standing” , “sit down on the sofa” and firmly saying “No” when she’s being dangerous....... her response is just to laugh ! I also put cushions on the floor just in case but they always move.
I’m 8 months pregnant and it’s exhausting!! I can’t take my eyes off her for a split second. I’ve stopped letting her in the lounge at times because of this but all her toys etc are in there and sometimes I need to sit down! We try to get out as much as possible too.
She does need to learn but perhaps she is too young to understand my stern words (although I reckon she understands a lot)?
Should I keep policing her and hope this phase passes ? I’ve been given an inflatable ball pool I’ve not used yet, she could throw herself about in there - would distraction work? should I put a mattress or something in the lounge ?
Any advice from parents whose kids are similar much appreciated !!
