Messing about swimming

My little boy loves swimming but doesn't listen or pay attention to the teacher. He instead loves splashing and playing around. Great that he is enjoying himself in some ways and building confidence in the water (he is 5) but the teacher often repeatedly has to tell him to stop and pay attention.

He is just in Reception at school and we don't have any problems with his behaviour there ;probably because he knows there will be a consequence from the teacher.

We have tried talking though with him, telling him it is not acceptable, offering incentives for good behaviour but with no avail. Any ideas what else we could try?

I have no advice but my 5 year old is the same. We moved him to a much smaller class and he receives an instant reward in the car if he tries really hard to listen.
It doesn't work every week but the smaller class means at least he is learning something.

Maybe just stop classes and go to normal open swimming unless he shows a want to go to classes :)

Yep, we have experienced this with dd. The environment is very hyper stimulating I think. DD now receives one to one lessons and this is expensive but suiting her much better.
