How do you discipline your child?

He throws cars across the room when playing or at the dog say. I take the cars off him and tell him no and tell him to say sorry.

Or say if he is in a pub and playing up.

Or when he really wants a biscuit close to dinner time and you say no but he keeps going in the cupboards and screaming.

Or any unwanted behaviour ? I remove the "item" if he is playing with something and naughty but sometimes I struggle and end up really shouting as I lose my patience and then I feel bad as I know that's not the way to do it.
How do you keep calm?

First and foremost by anticipation (never letting them get too hungry or too tired), realism (i wouldn't expect them to sit and wait for their food for half an hour at home so why would I in a pub) and distraction.

From 18 mo we did use the naughty step but only to quench one undesirable behaviour at a time, not as a general punishment. So for ds1 it wad for throwing, then later for biting. For ds2 it was for pulling mine and ds1's hair.
