8 month old stopped babbling

My lb turned 8 months yesterday and he’d been babbling for 2 weeks dada, baba, kaka, gaga, yaya (would do it back and forth with us too) last week he would only babble kaka and now he won’t babble at all! He will screech and make funny noises, he’s doing a lot of mmm and mmmg (seems to really like his ‘g’ noises!)
Just wondering if it’s normal for babies to stop like this?
In all other aspects I think he’s doing ok. He’s not crawling, but will push himself backwards around the room. He even started doing the ‘plank’ a few days ago! 😂
Rolls and sits fine.
He’s started randomly clapping, not when we clap but if he’s excited he will suddenly clap his hands together. He started banging 2 toys together yesterday.
He sticks his tongue out if you do it at him.
I’m just worried about his communication, my nephew is severely autistic so I know my lb is higher risk to be autistic too. It’s always in the back of my mind.
Does this sound normal?
Thanks

At 8 months you're not going to be able to tell if it's normal or not, so honestly, I'd try to relax and enjoy your baby.

It sounds like he's developing at a fast rate and you're having lots of lovely interactions with him Smile

Thanks, I know I need to just push it to the back of my mind.
I just panicked as I know loss of sounds is a red flag for autism.
Time will tell I guess...

Once he's 16 months you can do the m-Chat but 16 months is a long way off and lots can change before then. I really would just try to enjoy your baby Smile

Thank you! Hopefully he’ll get back in track but if not will definitely do the m chat 16m+
Thank you for responding! 😊

They do all sorts of weird things. They'll learn to clap then not do it again for weeks and weeks. I honestly would not worry in the slightest.

It's try that they do things and then stop. My DS rolled once, looked straight at me, then didn't do it again for ages. It was like he'd only done it so I could tick it off his milestone chart Grin

Thanks for your comments ladies.
It’s funny he actually started gagaga-OMG again today....
likes to keep us on our toes!

I know this post is old now but my 7 months old son did exactly the same, babbled for 10 days and now back to screeching. How is your baby now that a year has passed?

Aneley · 05/08/2020 18:52

Same here. Can anyone share how their babies are doing now? Ours started babbling for about 2 weeks and now (8m) is back to screeching. I'm out of my mind with worry.

Chickenandegg8 · 05/08/2020 19:01

Hi,
So my little boy is now 25 months.
He started babbling again on and off until about 11 months when he started and never stopped! 😀
He could say 5 words by the time he was 15 months old. Now says what feels like hundreds of words and speaks up to 6 word sentences.
It’s such a massive change in a year.
Please try not to worry, it’s so hard I know. I think 3 words are expected by 15 months old. 8 months is still so young. They’ve got ages yet before words are expected.
Hope this helps x
