Hi so my little one is 11 months, she can sit unaided but not very long. Is rolling but not crawling. We have being referred to see someone about her not being able to sit unaided for very long, as anyone else had this with there little one? Starting to get worried now that something is maybe wrong with her? Or she isn’t developing the way she should be. Any help would be my joy appreciated. Thank you

I just want to add she is very strong on her legs and she can stand holding onto just my hands or holding onto her walker

I'm not quite sure how she can sit at all if she can't crawl, how does she get into the sitting position? My oldest was 11 months until he sat. It hadn't occurred to me that this wasn't normal so I personally think your baby is fine some just take longer to work things out than others.

I have to put her into the sitting position for her to be able to sit

I'm not quite sure how she can sit at all if she can't crawl, lots of babies can sit long before they crawl.

But you have to put them in the sitting position? So actually they can't sit, just balance. I know it's normal in the UK but elsewhere you don't put them to sit, just let them sit when they are ready. Everyone in the world can sit so it isn't an issue

Whether you put them in the sitting position or they get into it by themselves, sitting is still sitting surely? I've never seen any questions in relation to baby milestones asking if the baby got into the sitting position or you put them there. Am I missing something here?

There is functional sitting (I think it's called) and just sitting after being placed in the position. My DS learnt to crawl before he learnt to sit which didn't happen till 8m, before that point he just stayed in a crawling position when he had a bath etc. Whereas my daughters both learnt to sit at 6m and crawled slightly later.
With regards to the OP, yes it does sound like an issue if she is not mobile and yet still can't sit at almost a year ( I am not a health professional though!)

It's really @BLP123. It's really good that you've been referred. Do you know when the appointment will be?

BLP123 · 20/02/2019 19:55

We are just waiting for an appointment to come through, so hopefully won’t be too long to see a paediatrician then we will know more what’s going on.
