9 month old - what should he be doing?

Hi All,

I know im probably worrying over nothing but just wondered what my 9 month old baby should be doing?

He sits up on his own and can reach and lean for toys confidently- but we do still have the odd topple over. He can roll over but only to his left, once he does roll he eventually cries instead of trying to roll over onto his back so we have to pick him up because he gets frustrated.
He has started trying to pull his knees up when laid on his front but he does this with his head and chest on the floor so not even close to crawling.

He also says dada and baba and also babbles other noises and blows raspberries.

He copies off us when we cough and also gives kisses when asked and recognises his favourite song.

But ... he doesn't clap, crawl, pull himself up on things, say mama or even attempt to move.

Can someone just tell me he is not behind in his development so i dont go insane.
Im going back to work soon and just feel that he is going to do everything once i go back and im going to miss it xx

I'd say your DS is absolutely fine. My 1 month old can crawl and cruise but won't kiss, blow raspberries and has only just learnt to clap.
They're all different but honestly don't worry

@MummyOf1Boy sorry that should have read 10 month old - I don't have a freakishly over developed newborn 😂

Should add I think we all worry they're not doing what they're supposed to.
If it helps I've noticed a huge amount of change in him between 9 & 10 months, he will just start doing this he never has before.

I think im more anxious of missing 'his firsts' as im going back to work soon and was really hoping he would be saying mama before I have to leave him xx

Keep in mind every child developes at a different pace. Your first child may start walking at 12 months and your second might start at 9! Also depending on how much tummy time he's had will determine how physically strong he's become. I just looked back at my photo album to see what my son was doing at 9 months and he loved to walk with his walker. I'll attach a picture. We went everywhere with it. Made him strong and confident. Besides that at 9 months my lo was crawling everywhere.. playing with everything. Loved to put keys in key holes, loved books etc. I allowed him to crawl everywhere and touch anything that wasn't dangerous to him. I let him climb literally everything and only helped him if he asked me to. Regardless if he's not crawling yet he will with time. Just allow him lots of opportunity to move and lots and lots of tummy time to make him nice and strong.

I do tummy time every day with him but he doesn't really like it if im honest, he looks like a ladybird on its back just lifting his head and kicking his legs lol then when he does roll over onto his tummy he will only tolerate about 5 minutes - 10 at the most - then just cries, doesn't even roll himself onto his back just cries until we sit him up. And he doesn't even roll about the floor he will only roll from his back to front and thats his limit he just hates being laid on the floor.

He loves to be on the floor playing with his toys but he doesnt even try to move.

@MummyOf1Boy I feel exactly the same!! I got back the day after his first birthday and I feel like I'm going to miss so much. It's tough but look at how far he's come in just 9 months, it's amazing to watch xx

Maybe try putting toys further from him so he attempts to try and grab them?

Something like this? It helped my baby a lot back at the time when he wasn't interested in crawling
