Hi all - first of all, thanks so much for reading! I'm searching for a bit of advice...beginning to feel useless and out of my depth!
So...our little boy, turned 3 on the 9th Jan, has been having some extreme temper tantrums (hitting/biting/throwing things or himself) over the past few weeks now. It, of course, is usually triggered when he has been asked to do something! This morning it was because I asked him to get dressed - how dare I?!
We have tried talking to him during his fit, restraint, ignoring him, leaving him alone in a safe room... its becoming an unbearable routine and I feel bad that it's annoying me so badly.
Once he's calmed down, I am able to have a conversation with him about what he's done and how it makes mummy & daddy feel and he seems to understand what I'm saying and apologises (mostly willingly) for what happened.
Is this normal behaviour for a 3 year old? Is there anything else we can do? Is there something that I can try and get him to do/say to express his anger/frustration instead of lashing out? Do we just need to ride it out with persistence? 🤷🏻♀️
Please share your thoughts and experiences 🙏🏼 Thank you. Sarah x
