Almost every night ds gets out of his bed, and wanders around looking for things, or most usually asking 'have they gone yet?' or similar.
he doesn't have any tea/coffe when he gets in from school (or cheese!). Nothing going on unusual. Certainly noone ususlly visits at night -he often asks has x gone? Any ideas to settle him down. It's usually 10.30 ish. He goes to bed 8.30, asleep 9.30. It's starting to worry me now when he goes on school trips, camping etc.

I was like this as a child right through my teens and still very occasionally now (although it is usually just talking these days). I don't think there is much you can do at all except steer him back to bed. If it's any consolation I managed to walk down/up stairs etc without ever coming harm. Hopefully someone will come on with more up-to-date advice because maybe he can see a Sleep expert if it gets worse or you are overly worried.

I have a 12 yr old DD who sleep walks, she has been on school residentual(sp) trips and also we go camping as a family. We haven't had any problems with it when we go camping as DH is a very light sleeper and would wake up at the sound of a pin drop, she has however slepwalked on all 3 school trips, the schools were all informed and were all fine with it, they just guide her back to bed quietly as we would at home.

Just make sure the school are warned. My brother did this - and went on lots of school trips - they just had to make sure that in youth hostels someone was sleeping right by the door and/or the outside door was locked so that he couldn't end up outside. I don't know if my parents ever looked for a "cure" - he is 38 now and apparently still does it, so if they did look they had no luck!
