Big head!!!

Been to see the HV today to get my 16 month son weighed, measured and his head circumference measured. His weight is on the 98th centile, length on the 50th centile and his head circumference is off the chart!

Anyone's child had a large head? HV doesn't think there's anything to worry about as he's meeting his milestones. Anyone else had this?

Couldn't she give you any kind of centile for his head?

Did he start out with a big head? And do you and/or his father have a larger than average head? If so, it is highly unlikely that you have anything to worry about.

My son was born with an off-the-chart head. Probably around 107th centile if such a centile existed. He is now 3.5 years and still has a large head - just like his father.

There is nothing wrong with simply having a big head. It is more unexpectedly rapid growth (with the result being a bigger than anticipated head) which usually raises concerns. So if he'd started out in life with a 25th centile head, and had been following that line then suddenly shot off the chart that would be cause for concern.
