First night night weaning bub is 18 months and has always fell asleep on the breast. My back is in excruciating pain has been for a year but some days are more manageable than others. It's now become too much to bear and so decided to stop. He's been non stop crying for three hours. Hubby is annoyed and being grumpy - now getting ready to leave for work. Ready to give up.

You have my total sympathy. Are you doing the Dr Jay Gordon Method?

I've heard "Milkies In the Morning" recommended as a story book as well Smile

I have been advised to use the method and it makes sense and is most akin to our situation however NOTHING comforts him at all just constant crying for four hours.

Four hours is a long time. How are you all tonight?

😩 I know we tried walking cuddled laying in bed letting him cry it out, hoping tonight will not be as bad.

I wanted to post a bit of an update. As o was desperately searching when trying to wean and found threads posting advice not no follow on or outcome of results.

So, my first attempt at trying to wean failed. After two nights of continuous traumatic crying we gave up. Midnight drives proved helpful but as soon as he hit the bed it was back to the screaming. We tried again after three weeks, this time on advice of my mother in law and family I put marmite on my nipples. Bit gross I know, but it was like a switch, he was shocked and hesitant to take the nipple, he tried it but didn't like it. The adorable thing thought there was something wrong with me and gave me a hug and after point blank refusing to ever take the bottle he took the bottle with not problem. He woke up a couple of times nights 1 and night 2 but all I needed to show him were my marmite nipples and he understood and took a bottle instead. After about 4 days no marmite was required and he was fully weaned. He switched to the bottle and has been a happy bunny since.

Two things;

  • it's really gross and sticky.
  • defo put multiple sheets down as the combination of engorged breasts and marmite causes a lot or leakage, my breast pads, bra, nighty, bed sheet and two layers of waterproof mattresses were not enough to stop the marmite/milk permenantly staining the mattress.

I know TMI but this worked like a miracle so wanted to share with those who are suffering like I was !!
