Whingy 2 year old

Hi, I’m looking for some advice regarding my 2yr old son.
He constantly whinges and cries at me and is very clingy - I can’t even get up out of my seat without him getting upset sometimes!?
I try to distract him with toys or another activity but nothing works.
When my friends look after him, they say he is a delight to look after! Which is great But I don’t understand why he is so miserable around me? He is whingy with his dad but not as bad. Is this a boy thing? I have a 3yr old girl and she is nothing like this?

No advice unfortunately but just wanted to let you know you are not alone, my sons 2.6 years old and exactly the same.
I'm just praying it will get better as communication gets easier.

Same here a lot of the time. 2.1 year old b/g twins

Does he nap in the day? My son gets that way when he's tired.

No he doesn't nap now, he doesn't sleep at night if he naps.
He also gets very upset and whingy when there's a lot of people around - even with family. It's like he hates people !? X

I think he might need a nap. Maybe 30 min one? Have you tried that?
