Baby's first night in own bedroom - did any-one else feel a bit sad?

Just put dd to bed in her own lovely room for the first time. She has been in our room for six months. Feeling a bit emotional - seems like a real turning point. Am I just being pathetic? DH doesn't seem to understand!

I felt the same way both times with my dd's, but give it 12 months and you wont feel so sad when that baby wont stay in it's own room,lol.
Each milestone can be emotional.

I felt really sad when DS moved into his own room. It was this Monday and he is 2.5
I now miss his snoring and shouting out stuff in his dreams. I don't miss having to get up at 5.30 though - seems that he naturally stirred at this time, spotted me and decided it was high time I was up

gosh no.....i was so relieved i didnt have to creep around in our bedroom anymore, but then again i did put my dd in her own room when she was 8m old but ideally she should've of been 6m old but i wasnt ready to move her!

moondog - there is no room for a cot in our room - and she is busting out of the moses basket! Just been to see her - she is fast asleep - looking very peaceful.

No, you aren't pathetic. I didn't feel sad, I was glad I could read before falling asleep as it's always been my habit. But now, my youngest being three, I just wish I could (just for one night, mind you ) have a new born in my arms, breastfeed in the middle of the night, when everyone's asleep, and fall asleep next to her/him, with their lovely smell... ah, bliss.

I cried. She didn't. She slept wonderfully in her big cot - didn't miss me half as much as I missed her!

I thought I would be sad, then had the best night sleep since baby was born as I wasn't aware of him breathing and snuffling all the time. With DS2 I just bunged him in a cot next to his big brother and never gave it a thought!

You're not pathetic! You obvioulsy enjoyed having lo in with you.

Our was a little pig in that he snuffled, snored and moved around a lot -no change there then!

We moved him out at around 5-6 weeks as he was keeping us awake!! (Move was a little unorthadox -as he was in his carrycot we pushed him outside our door for the first night, then down the corrider a bit, bit more and then finally in his cot!)

Do what you feel comfy doing but it is a turning point

Absolutely - I felt very sad, but with a tinge of relief that DH and I now don't have to creep round the bedroom when we go to bed and that I can enjoy reading in bed again.

The bonus is at the moment (DD is 6 months old) she doesn't get disturbed by us in the morning either, so although she wakes at 5.30 for a feed, she goes back to sleep and doesn't wake at DH's alarm, so we get a little lie-in

You are right though - it feels like a real turning point, from a little baby into a little girl with her own little room...

I am hoping I will get a better night's sleep. She a louder snorer than DH (and that's saying something!) Also thinking she may sleep a bit later than her usual half five in the morning - as the blinds are better in her room and less light gets in .

Yes I was sad as it meant my dd was "growing up" but also relieved that I didn't have to creep around in the dark when I went to bed and I could put the light on and read - I felt like a proper person again!

And gosh you must have a gigantic moses basket if she has been in it for 6 months!!

I must feel even more pathetic - we co-slept in one big bedroom with ds in our bed and dd in a cot right next to it (touching) and that was until they were 4 and 3 years old! Then we moved house and they got a room oftheir own which they happily moved into - very proud to have their own room and I couldn't sleep because ds wasn't in themiddle of our bed and I had to get up about 4 times a night to check on them!

I have put DS (5.5 months) in his own room tonight for the first time tonight. He was just getting to big for his crib and I could hear his arms banging into the sides.

Part of me feels really sad, I shall miss him terribly, but part of me also feels very proud of my little boy.

We have decorated his room and is looks lovely, it is much darker, and the cot is more comfortable, but I still shed a tear when I put him to bed tonight.

He is only next door and with both doors open not far at all, but feels like a huge leap and a big development in our lives.

My dd has moved through from our room to share with her big brother tonight.I'm going to miss her and the wee noises she makes. Also don't fancy having to go through to give early morning bottle, was so easy when in our room.
Away to look at her before heading to bed in my lonely room (DH out tonight so on lonesome)
She's nine months.

Well - she did just fine in the night (hardly noticed!) I didn't - apparently I woke DH up in the night shaking him and asking where dd was. He said I was frantic - I can't remember!

(daisyhun - she is really quite a small baby - so that's why she fitted in the basket so long)

With DD1 I was more upset than she was
DH thought i was a bit mad too. He was just happy not to have to sneak around anymore.

DD2 is nearly 11 mths and still in my room as she still wakes at night for milk.
Will be glad when she goes in to DD1's room
