Worried about my 8.5 month old

Hello!

I am here because I am growing concerned about my sweet boy. He is 8.5 months old and does not respond to his name, EVER. Has anyone else’s little ones been late to do this? I am worried sick. I appreciate any and all input from you all.

Do they respond to sounds? If not talk to your HV so they can advise regarding hearing checks. I think excepting them to respond to their name at this age is a bit early: speak to your HV they will reassure you.

My son is just over 10 months and only really starting to respond to his own name now! So I wouldnt worry about it, he's still very young.

Don’t worry at all! Responding to name typically emerges between 7-9 months but won’t be consistent until closer to 12 months. The NHS considers it a 12 month milestone. My DS was closer to a year before he started reliably responding and still doesn’t sometimes if he is engrossed in a game etc
