10 month old not crawling or pulling to stand

Hi,

My son turned 10 months old yesterday still has no interest in crawling. He sometimes tries but gives up! He would rather sit up and play with toys. Does not bum shuffle. He loves standing with support but doesnt try to stand himself but we are trying him leaning against sofa, on an activity table etc but he not balanced at all and needs held/supported. Doesnt even try to pull up from sitting to standing and can not go from lying down to sitting either.
He likes the jumperoo but i would only have him in it about 20 mins a day.
The HV said if neither were happening by the time he turns 1, he will need referred for physio :-(.
Know I shouldnt be impatient or compare to others and that all babies take their own time in doing things, but just wanted some advice.
I have just started back to work yesterday so hoping that maybe being around other kids might encourage him or teach him?

Thanks

Quite normal. A lot of babies don't crawl or pull themselves up then, one day, they just get up and walk! Nothing unusual about it at all, they're all different. Stop worrying.

Everything you've written could have been applied to my son at that age. But he was running by 13 months. So he might surprise you in the next couple of months.

Crawling is not a milestone. DD walked at 9mo and at the time she could not pull herself up from sitting to standing or sit up from lying down. I don’t know how she managed to walk and it was a nightmare because every time she fell she screamed until I put her up right again.

DD1 didn't crawl until 11 months but then walked just after she turned 1yr.
DD2 crawled at around 10m but then didn't walk until 16m.
There really isn't a set age they should be crawling or walking, if he's happy sat playing then he'll decide to move when he wants to do something other than that.

My husband didn't walk til 18 months. Normal is a huge range!!

Did you do tummy time with him? He might be weak at the trunk and arms. Everyone saying it's normal. It's common yes, however it's avoidable. That is why tummy time is very important.

My DD crawled right from one side of the room to the other on her first birthday, mastered it straight away. Before then she had never shown an interest and although she could get onto all 4's, she preferred to just sit and play. She started walking at 14 months. My other DD walked a few days before her first birthday and crawled at 8 months, there was a long buildup to crawling whilst she practiced, she spent ages on all 4's, rocking and building up to crawling, going backwards before she mastered going forwards. She was pulling up to stand around the time she crawled.

Ds never crawled or pulled his self up, just suddenly stood bolt up right and walked at 11 months, was told DD would not crawl or pull herself up as she has no left arm from below elbow, she crawled she pulled herself up and was walking at 9 months, so they are not all the same, do different things at different times x

Thanks everyone for replies, Im not too worried now as know there is such a range of when these things can happen! In fact I myself as a baby didnt walk or crawl until around 14 months and went on to do marathons lol so Im not too worried and had reassurance from another HV.

My son is 11 months and a total lump! Can't pull or up crawl. Loves to stand but no attempts to move his feet around to cruise, or save himself from falling. Without supervision would go down like a sack of spuds! He tries but can't bend with control and straighten back up.
He's very chilled and content by nature, but the older he gets the more pressure i'm feeling to get him moving! The replies to your thread have made me feel better! Fingers crossed they both get there soon!

None of mine ever crawled. First went straight to walking at 11 months. The others bottom shuffled so were later getting up.

@blondeirishmummy84 what happened in the end? I've just been refered to Phsyio by my HV as my DD is also not pulling herself up or leaning on sofa weight bearing. She is 10m today. Any advice would be great. TIA.

Hi @marianne1986,

My little boy ended up shuffling in his bum soon after I posted this and was a late walker, didn't walk until 22 months! He attended physio as well but got discharged soon after walking.
He is 2.5 now and running!
Honestly don't worry about it,your little one will do things in their own to and physio does help and gives you ideas to try and encourage them at home.x

Just to add some extra reassurance, my son didn't crawl until after 10 months, and wasn't pulling to stand until much longer than that... In fact he wasn't even bearing weight at all until 11 months old! However, he started walking at16 months and was running shortly after. He's now 2 and so athletic ... He runs everywhere! He has hypermobile ankles and hips which caused him to be delayed but not a big deal. His dad was the same and didn't walk until 18 months.

Hi. The same situation is with my 10 months old baby. I wanted an update. Is he doing fine? Because I’m terrified about my little one.

i have 3 boys and my youngest is nearly 10 months he’s also not crawling or walking or standing he can get from siting to his belly but can’t get from his belly to his bum again. My other boys now 13 years old and 8 years old where crawling and walking around the furniture by now I have been so worried about my youngest.

Hey do ring up your HV if you are worried and look if there is any self referring you can do in your local area. I was so worried too but it's all fine now. Shes still generally behind (not jumping) and 2.5yo but been with physio since the not pulling to stand which gives me piece of mind.
