ACID REFLUX???? HELP!!!!

have an 8 week old daughter, for the first few weeks of her life she was a greater feeder and rapidly put on Weight. But now feedings are terrible. She has 1-3oz and will stop and start refising more and when I pick her up to burp her she throws herself backward and screams. the only place she doesnt cry is when we put her on our shoulder. Her weight has started to slow down because she just won’t eat enough. She has hiccups a lot also.

I will add, she is NEVER sick and has no problem sleeping at night and doesn’t mind being on her back. Which I know are reflux symptoms. But the feeds are the same every time. She is on HiPP Organic milk.

I have been perscribe ranitidine, but so far no improvements!

This feeding has caused me to develop mild PND and bad anxiety. Just don’t know what to do next 😪

I can understand you being stressed. Some things to rule out are tongue tie and CMPA

I’m sorry you’re having such a tough time Flowers I’m no expert on reflux but my DD did suffer from it as a baby and rinitadine was brilliant (gaviscon did nothing) however it does take a while to work, it’s not instant. So if you are recently on rinitadine you need to give it up to a week to see if it’s making any difference. If it’s not then I’d advise speaking to your GP or health visitor, especially if she’s not gaining weight well. Hope things improve for you xx

Like a pp said, ranitidine doesn’t work straight away. You may also be better with a thickener in the milk: I know she’s not being sick, but if it’s reflux and rising/burning a thickener should stop that happening.

My son had severe reflux with vomiting and CMPA so needed thickener, ranitidine, omeprazole and dairy free milk to see improvement.

They usually start you on the lowest dose of ranitidine so it’s worth asking them to increase it if you don’t feel it’s helping.

Regarding weight gain, it if slows considerably, or if weight starts to drop, they will monitor and refer you to a paediatrician. This happened to my son, but with the changes/meds I mentioned above he started puttting weight on (although he will never be a chunk Smile)

Don’t let it upset you, and try talking to your HV. They will probably be able to reassure you and may also know of mums in a similar situation that you could link up with x
