my dd is 7 mth and my questino is quite a stupid one..... what does babbling sound like? and should she be doing this now at this age? she blows rasberries, screams (in a joyful way!!) and does a sort of singing thing when she is concentrating on something. but dont really understand what babbling is so dont know if she is doing it or not...lol

At 7 months children usually make some vowel sounds, eg "Ah-ah" or "Oh-oh". Round about the age of 9-10 months they start with the harder "ma-ma da-da" sounds. Some children start this a little later though.

My dd barely babbled at all, she seemed to go almost straight into language. She would squeal with delight, and blow raspberries from about 7m, but didn't really babble until after she had acquired several words, around 12m. Ds, on the other hand, babbled vowel sounds from about 2m, just happily made all sorts of vowel sounds whenever he was awake and interested in something, and added consonants (just like Fio2 describes) from about 6m. Soon he sounded like he was talking Polish, with phrases and rhythm to his speech. Thoroughly weird and hilarious!

lilsmum, DS is 8mths and does exactly what your DD does. He has only just started saying "DA,DA" but everything is "DA,DA" not just daddy

ds1 started babbling at 7 months and ds2 started at 10 months.
I have always understood this to mean the introduction of consonants. So changing from OOOO and AAAhhh (and other vowel sounds) to Mamamam, Mumumum, Dadadadad and babababa etc.

Dd did babbling like Fio2 describes from around 6 months old. She didn't do it for long though, very rapidly moved onto 'words.'

DD's 3 months and when shes happy talks to herself. She does the arhhhhh,,ohhhh, nnnnn type sounds. The pitch of her voices rises and falls as well.
