Baby not interested in me

Hi so I'm totally new to this app so apologies if this is in the wrong place

I'm a new mum and my baby is 8 months old and I constantly find myself worrying that he's not interested in me. He smiles and laughs and has been doing so for ages but often I find he's more interested in the toys than in me. He's not crawling yet but is getting around on his tummy and so I give him lots of floor time and he's always moving around exploring etc. If I whizz him around he loves it and if I use certain toys to stimulate him he loves it but if I'm on the sofa watching him he doesn't look up at me and smile. Basically I have to put in a lot of effort to get him to smile Cos he seems so busy or not interested otherwise is this normal

It’s perfectly normal, I think you may be expecting a bit much if you want an 8 month old to engage with you in this way Smile

He probably doesn’t look up because he feels that he has a secure bond with you and know s you’re there for him when he needs you.

The phase of staring deeply into each other’s eyes doesn’t last forever. Once they are on the move there are a lot of more interesting things to look at that Mum’s face. Just try to engage and enjoy the toys with him and be happy he is developing and interested in the world around him.
