Hello, I'm a first time mummy to my baby boy Spencer who is now 4weeks and 6days old!
During the days he feeds about every 3/4 hours having 6oz every time (he's bottle fed)! However when it come to night time, every night when it gets to around 8pm he wants a feed but he carries on feeding and gets really restless until around midnight or just after!! For example tonight, 8pm he took 6oz and wanted more and had another 2oz then an hour later had 5oz! Then didn't settle until around 11pm wanting more milk and from 11pm until 00:58am grazed on 6oz!! After this he then re awakes about 4am and only has 4oz and doesn't go back to sleep until 5am, then can reawaken about 8.30am... This is becoming hard with the tiredness... is there anything I can do or anything anyone can suggest? THANKYOUSmile

Totally normal. Try to sleep when your baby is asleep. It will get easier x

Hi Lauren, this is normal for a newborn. It will get easier over time, unfortunately, unless you sleep when baby sleeps (which can be easier said than done), I don't think there is much you can do. My first two babies didn't sleep through the night until they were 6 months (and began weaning), dc3 is nearly 8 months and still wakes up a couple of times - every baby is different. Speak to your health visitor during weigh in clinic if you have any concerns but honestly, sounds perfectly normal.

Thanks for replying! I do try sleep when he sleeps but like you said it's easier said than done! I don't think it helps at the moment he's super colicky.. especially at night time! I'm trying him with infacol at the moment but I'm seeing not much change!

It’s totally normal for them to be restless in the evening. I’m just wondering how much formula he’s having? Ff babies should have roughly 2.5 floz of formula per pound in weight in 24 hours. So a 10lb baby should have roughly 25 floz. If you work it out like that does he seem to be getting the right amount?

Have a read of this on the fourth trimester Smile

Swaddling might help, white noise, using a tshirt DH has worn as the sheet in his Moses basket. Try sticking him in a sling on the evenings too and walking around.

There’s some more info on colic on askdrsears.com

Congratulations too Thanks

@JiltedJohnsJulie thank you for you reply I will try some of these things!! My son is having roughly about 6-7oz every 3-4hours then around 8pm just won't stop guzzling milk and wanting more, he becomes really unsettled by it then through the night for example last night... it seemed a tad better he went to sleep at midnight, woke at 3am for a bottle but only had 4oz then again at 6am and only took 3oz!?
