Potty training and nursery

My 3 1/2 ds started nursery (in a school setting) in September. We have only started potty training in August and it has not gone great :-(
He only goes there in the mornings, and goes to a childminder in the afternoon. He has been having accidents every day in nursery, it was several times every morning in September, it is now one every morning.
He is doing well with his childminder and at home (for wees, we are still having issues with poos).
The teacher spoke to me this morning and asked me to put Hun back in pull ups. She says there are other children in the same situation and that she only has one teaching assistant, and that they have not got the time to deal with this, as they want to start working on phonics etc...
I said I understand staffing issues but that this decision is not in my child’s best interests. I said I feel he is improving and that he will regress if going back to pull ups. She agreed to give it another week.
AIBU to insist we carry on with toilet training? I said I would take ds to the toilet in nursery when we arrive every morning. What else can I do?
