Extensively Hydrolyzed Formula - SMA Althéra

Hi
Can anyone help me!
I went to see an allergy specialist yesterday for my son who is 4 months old. His symptoms are, sneezing, coughing, not drinking enough milk, refusing feeds, constipation followed by diarrhoea, reflux (he's on Omeprazole for this).
He has not shown any immediate allergies but she said he may have delayed allergy to the protein in milk so has put him on Hydrolyzed milk called SMA Althéra. Has anyone ever used this milk? My son has today been very constipated followed by green poo with dark bits in it. I am so far only giving him half and half (cow & gate and Hydrolyzed) as I was advised to wean him on to it. I'm concerned about his poo and would like to hear if anyone else has had experience with Hydrolyzed milks or can recommend brands etc. The specialist said she didn't care which brand the doctor gave me as long as it was Hydrolyzed.
Thanks!

Green poo totally normal (and it stinks). Neocate (another one of these formulas) actually have in their instructions a warning about the green shit.

It does sound like your DS has got Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy and agree that the poo sounds totally normal.

Just wondering who suggested mixing the formulas? I’ve not heard of that one before.

There’s an allergy section on MN which you might find useful too Smile

We were advised to wean over onto neocate in the same sort of way to reduce the risk of dd2 refusing it. Thankfully she had no culinary high standards.

Wow thank you all for the messages. Yes it seems he has trouble breaking down the protein chains in the normal formula. I'm glad the pooh is normal! Does it settle down?
It was the allergy specialist who said to mix formulas, so he got used to the taste. Tonight I have done 50/50 and it took it no problem. Will up the amount tomorrow 🤞🏼
Any idea how I can find the allergy group you refer to on here? Sorry I'm new to the app!
Thank you again!

Glad he’s taking 50/50 with no problem. The allergy section is here Smile

The green shit remains however long they're on the formula - it's not the funnest part of parenting - but my child now eats a completely normal diet, has totally outgrown her intolerances and is the kind of eater most parents will dream of in terms of what she'll eat and how happily she'll eat stuff.
