My little boy was 1 on the 19th October and he's not saying any words at all he will sometimes babble and make noises it sounded like he was saying mam for a couple of weeks when he was kicking if but that's stopped and I can't help but worry. Should I be worried?

No, that sounds very normal for a year old baby. You will have a HV review around 12-14 months so you can discuss it with them but doesn’t sound anything to worry about :)

Thank you I know kids develop at their own pace and stuff but he doesn't say any words and there's kids that are saying at least a couple of words by 1 me friends little one is 9 month and can say 2 words it could just be me worrying to much

My little boy didn't speak at all until 2 and now his language is apparently more advanced than most of his peers. My 10 month old is just starting to babble now which I think is an average time. It definitely isn't the norm for 9 month old to be starting first words.

Easy to say not to worry (I stressed so much about language development!) but they really do progress in their own time.

@lovemyprince I have been worrying about the same thing my dd turned 1 15th October and she mainly just babbles she says dad and dadda a lot but I'm not sure if she's actually associating the word with her dad or just making a noise if that makes sense. I also keep thinking she's trying to say mumma but I'm not sure if she's just saying mmmmm lol. Another baby at a baby group is the same age roughly and she could say doggy when she saw a dog and all sorts so it got me thinking!

@mincymoo124 I ended up phoning my early visitor yesterday other day and she says that as long as he's babbling an it's quite tuneful then not to worry he will speak when he's ready because I was really worried but she said kids develop at their own rates
