DS is 3.8 and doesn't yet, what age did your children start doing it? Should I be encouraging him now?

You wouldn't believe he's my second child would you lol

hmm good question.... Definately most of the time by school age, but still needed help when feeling lazy! Did it themselves at preschool (aged 3-4) but inefficiently IYKWIM!

DS1 tried this morning, he's 2.4

Good question. My 3.2 ds has started having a paddy when I try to do it for him. But I've no idea how to teach him to do it himself. Interesting to know they might not bother at nursery though

My dd started doing it herself at 4.3, it was talking about starting school in August that helped, she likes to do her coat up herself too.

paulaplumpbottom · 17/06/2007 18:11

My dd is about to turn 4 and she is just now wiping her own bottom

imaginaryfriend · 17/06/2007 18:17

Dd's fine when it's a wee but with a poo she's not so great at doing it though she does try. At home she usually gives me a call to check she's 'clean' but at school it's more tricky as there's nobody to help her and she often comes home with quite a messy bottom. She's nearly 5.

paulaplumpbottom · 17/06/2007 18:19

won't het teacher's help?

colditz · 17/06/2007 18:21
  1. He sometimes needs help and usually needs reminding.

Also, I personally think boys have longer arms!

brimfull · 17/06/2007 18:24

my ds 4.5 is great at smearing shite up his back

WigWamBam · 17/06/2007 18:24

Dd is 6, and still likes someone else to do it for her.

She has long-standing pooing issues though, and I don't want to upset the balance again by forcing her to do it herself if she's not happy to.

Teachers aren't generally allowed to help, PPB.

Thank you, I obviously don't need to worry yet then, he's at preschool and they do it for him there but I wasn't sure when they would start expecting him to do it. He has another year at preschool so hopefully will be doing it by the time he starts school at nearly 5!

DS is 5 and just about there, too busy to wipe really properly until now, he did try for ages but we ended up just doing it as the hoo haa over not properly wiped bots and poo pants and itchy bum was more hassle! Teachers won't wipe and who can blame them! DS does not poo at school his natural cycle sees him poo after tea. He does like to wip now, but we are in the process of trying to educate him that he does not really need half a tub of Kandoo wipes per poo!

yaddayah · 18/06/2007 18:52

ds well he's 5.4 and still yells "mum i'm finished come and wipe my bum !" at full volume (he also doesn't go at school.. sometimes we have to jog home.. )
