DS's was at 9 mths - they checked weight/height, looked at him sitting, asked if was crawling (comando at the time). Checked how weaning was going and whether he was eating lumpy food. All vacinations up to date. Checked his hips legs and I think being a boy that all his 'bits' were ok. To be honest I didn't get much out of it - if you've read the books/mumsnet you'll have a fairly good idea (or not) whether your DC is in the normal 'range' for development. On the plus side I guess its a good 1:1 with HV if you've got any niggling issues you want to discuss. We also got our Bookstart Bag (DS really liked his book!!) Hope this helps.

A lot of places/HVs don't do this anymore.

But at ds' he had to pick up some beads, listen for some rustly noises (that's been replaced by newborn hearing screening now) and be seen to sit up unaided and heard to be babbling.

We were asked a few questions about he was with diet/sleeping/mobility etc. He wasn't crawling at this age and that wasn't an issue for HV. Height and weight measured.

Nothing sinister really. He had a squint at the time which was referred on to the appropriate person as a result of his 8 mth check. That's is really

Oh - we got nice books too

we don't get one - but can go to talk if we want to . Am moderately annoyed as my daughter was a little premature but not enough to be officially monitored by anyone so I would have welcomed a check. But then judging by what my last hv knew - it wouldn't be much use anyway.
